The city of Gresham has partnered with special friends of the community — Santa's helpers — to help bring extra holiday joy this season.

Santa's helpers have installed two "Letters to Santa" red mailboxes, one in the Gresham Arts Plaza, 488 N.E. Third St., and another at Rockwood Central Park, 17707 S.E. Main St. The boxes will allow children to send off their letters directly to the North Pole.

Santa thanks Gresham staff for assisting in the installation and Hollywood Signs for donating.

Fairview plans food cart pod

The Fairview Urban Renewal Agency has started the development of a food cart site at the Southeast corner of 223rd Avenue and Halsey Street.

The new food cart pod will feature a permanent building for covered indoor dining, an outdoor plaza for eating, a farmer's market and area for kids to play.

The Fairview Planning Commission is reviewing requirements for food cart pods and there will be a public hearing Tuesday, Jan. 12, with the time yet to be announced.

Designs for the food cart plaza will be developed the first part of 2021.

The city has heard repeatedly that the community wants more places to eat and hang out in Fairview and the new food carts is one answer to that need.
