A Gresham nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting seniors with their peers and uplifting them through activities and classes, is seeking community members to guide the group and come up with new fundraising ideas.
The Gresham Senior Center, 600 N.E. Eighth St., has six open seats on its Board of Directors that it hopes to fill through an election Wednesday, June 9, at the center.
Board members gather for monthly meetings, serve on Senior Center committees and help organize fundraising events. Prospective members will also be asked to occasionally volunteer at the center. Board members do not have to be seniors.
The Senior Center is continuing to bounce back after a difficult 2020, which had the organization on the brink of closing due to financial concerns. The organization has been working to form new partnerships to bring financial stability, and being able to gather for events like the annual car show this year has been a big help as well.
With an influx of new faces on the Gresham Senior Center's Board of Directors, the hope is a bevy of new fundraising and community events that will continue to shine a bright spotlight on the center.
