Love Project celebrates Gresham super-parents
There are so many superhero parents in East Multnomah County.
Ashley Mumm not only manages a house filled with dogs, chickens and kids, she also works for the Oregon Food Bank to end hunger. Michael Teddy is a U.S. Army veteran, who never turns away a child or animal in need of love and a place to stay. Greg Freetage is a stay-at-home dad teaching his 16-month-old colors, alphabet and shapes. Rebecca Hergert is a full-time health nurse at a local middle school.
All of these parents, and many more, always put others before themselves. Which is why they were chosen to receive a bit of pampering through The Love Project.
Sponsored by Gresham Ford, The Love Project is a series of monthly events throughout 2021 that utilize community nominations to find those who "deserve a little love." Each month carries a different theme that provides support for people across the community.
In May and June, the project focused on celebrating the many amazing parents across East Multnomah County. Tied to Mother's Day and Father's Day respectively, The Love Project recognized 22 people over the two month span — with the mom's receiving a $100 gift card to be pampered at the business of their choice, and the dad's getting a $100 gift card to White's Country Meats.
The incredible mothers were Nancy York, Kelva Stroud, Gloria Martinez, Michelle Davis, Cher Marlowe, Helen Halbrook, Emily Hong, Andrea Rose, Ashley Mumm, Rebecca Hergert, and Em James.
The amazing fathers were Carlos Merlos, John Hardesty, Robert York, Stan McNutt, Fernando Castillo, Scott Jones, Michael Teddy, Jesse Sowder, Rhon Applegate, Greg Freetage, and Chad Randall.
"(Rhon) never let the night shift get in the way of missing important events," said the nomination for Rhon Applegate. "His favorite past time is sitting around the table with good food and being with family."
There are several more events on the horizon through The Love Project. The latest is a chance to win a summer pool party to help beat the unbelievable heat. The deadline to apply for one of three parties is Thursday, July 22. Apply online at bit.ly/3xMs928
