Paddle boarders, kayakers wear spooky costumes during event starting at Estacada Lake on Saturday, Oct. 23

Drizzles of rain didn't stop a group of hauntingly stylish witches and warlocks from taking to Estacada Lake this weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 23, around 20 paddle boarders and kayakers embarked on the water at Timber Park for the first Witches and Warlocks event at the lake in Estacada. The gathering was coordinated by Sandy resident Mandi Rogers.

Rogers had been interested in a similar event on the Willamette River but decided to coordinate something closer to home.

"I wanted to do something local," she said, adding that she was looking forward to seeing everyone dressed up and having fun.

Estacada resident Muna Rustam said she was looking forward to having a spooky time.

"It sounded like a lot of fun," she said.

Fellow participant Robyn Beisell thought it would be fun to paddle as part of a group.

"I like new things, and new adventures," she said.

Karla Kidd, who came from Happy Valley, said the event was a perfect fit for her because she loves Halloween and paddle boarding.

"I can't think of anything more fun," she said.

Rogers hopes to make the event an annual one and is interested in incorporating donations for a local organization next year.

One goal of this year's gathering and future ones is to make everyone feel welcome, whether they're in a kayak, paddle board or other floatation device.

"Just dress up and have fun," she said.
