Community members celebrate, admire the improvements to Gresham High School

The school and the district celebrated the achievement with the open-house where the public were treated to speeches from the school and district administration, performances from a few of the high school's performing groups and a tour of the new facilities. The high school's modernization started as a bond proposal by Gresham-Barlow School District, after the district noticed that all of its schools were in desperate need of repair, especially the two high schools.

The $291.2 million bond was passed in November 2016. In January of 2021 renovations were completed and in April of 2021 Gresham High officially welcomed back students to in-person instruction.

The school's additions include 54 classrooms, a new gym, a 550-seat auditorium, media center and many renovations scattered throughout the new building.

"The building has lifted the self-esteem of thousands of current and past gophers," said McKenzee Manlupig, Gresham High School's senior class president. "I am glad we no longer have ceiling tiles falling on our heads, I am glad we no longer have to worry about rats swimming in our pools and I am glad Gresham High School will go from being known for its lack of luster to the wonderful campus you will see today."

PMG PHOTO: ANGEL ROSAS - The muses that were previously in front of the campus have been installed in an interior courtyard. Although 75% of the school was replaced, there are many artifacts of the building's history included in the renovations. One of the most obvious call backs to the previous structures was the creation of the new courtyard that includes many of the original statues that fronted Gresham High School along Main Street.
