Omar Cibrian-Gongora, 22, to spend 20 years in prison after killing victim in parking lot in 2021 incident.

A 22-year-old man was sentenced to two decades in prison after pleading guilty to shooting and killing another man in a Gresham mini-mart parking lot last year.

Omar Cibrian-Gongora, 22, pleaded guilty Tuesday, May 10, to first-degree manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the Multnomah County Circuit Court.

The charges stem from an incident in April 2021 where Cibrian-Gongora fatally shot a 22-year-old victim in the parking lot of the Jay Mini Mart in Gresham. The victim — whose name was withheld by the District Attorney's Office — was sitting in his car when Cibrian-Gongora pulled up and confronted the victim and his friend. When the victim attempted to drive away, Cibrian-Gongora fired twice into the driver's door.

"I am asking for justice for my son," the victim's mother said in court. "(Cibrian-Gongora) left my heart completely destroyed."

The victim's girlfriend and mother of his then-unborn child wrote a letter that was read aloud by the prosecuting attorney.

"What you did was pointless, senseless and emotionless," the statement read. "(The victim) was funny, sweet, kind, a hard worker and a great person."
