Veterans donate flag pole to Wood Village Fred Meyer
The Gresham VFW Post 180 attended an event held by the Wood Village Fred Meyer, 22855 NE Park Lane, to celebrate the parent company turning 100 years old. During the gathering Sunday afternoon, May 15, the veterans did a retirement ceremony for the old flag that hung by the entrance of the store; and raised new U.S. and POW/MIA flags on the 20-foot pole that Post 180 donated and raised in the lighted circle in the courtyard of the store.
The Gresham VFW made the donation because of the support Fred Meyer has given the organization through the years.
On Sunday the Gresham VFW Post 180 Auxiliary also kicked off its annual Uniting to Combat Hunger Campaign, in which member collect non-perishable food and money donations that will go to SnowCap Community Charities this year.
During the Fred Meyer ceremony the group collected 230 pounds of food and 41 pounds of hygiene items. Donations can be made at the group's booth during the Gresham Farmers Market held Saturdays in the Gresham Arts Plaza, 401 N.E. Second St.
