Les Schwab sponsors Sandy Music Fair and Feast among many other community efforts

The tire center team led by store manager Bill Tester has donated to numerous nonprofit organizations and student efforts since the location came to town in 1985.

Tester's crew has purchased livestock from 4H and FFA students at the Clackamas County Fair, donated funds to AntFarm and Sandy High athletic programs, made contributions to fundraising auctions for Oregon Trail Academy and more.

This year, and for several years previous, the business is also the main sponsor for the Sandy Area Chamber of Commerce's Sandy Music Fair and Feast, a fundraising event held during Sandy Mountain Festival to bring in dollars for the chamber's charitable programs and operation.

"It's extremely exciting to get back into some of the (events) that this city is known for this year," Tester said. "These events allow us to showcase what Sandy is all about."

For Tester, the "undeniable brotherhood" associated with working at Les Schwab is part of why he started with the company 27 years ago.PMG PHOTO: BRITTANY ALLEN - Besides offering a variety of services for your vehicle, Les Schwab in Sandy serves the community with donations and sponsorships.

"It was more than just a team; it was a family," he said. "I wanted to be a part of that."

And he has enjoyed his last three years as store manager at the Sandy branch for similar reasons.

"Sandy still has that down-home feel." Tester said. "It's absolutely key to support the individuals who allow you to come to work every day."

Besides giving to many student programs with their time by serving on the Sandy High CTE Advisory Committee for the automotive program, and with their money through donations of dollars and used equipment, Tester said the Les Schwab has also employed numerous Sandy High graduates. "The employees and programs we offer are what set Les Schwab apart (as a tire center)," Tester said. "Customers are first and foremost, but you have to have a team to assist them. Our employees are invested in the company, so there's ownership there. Our store also spends far more than other stores by putting money back into the community. For me it's super simple: it's all about giving back. That's why I think it's important to live in the community you work in."
