Three Barlow High School graduates accepted $1,000 scholarships from Gresham Breakfast Lions Club on Thursday, June 16, at the M&M Restaurant & Lounge.
Hanna Gibson and Trinity Bowman were awarded the club's academic scholarship, while Morgan MacAlevy was given the first Don Adams Memorial Trade Scholarship.
Each student plans to continue their education after high school. Gibson will attend the University of Oregon where she will study architectural design.
Bowman will use her scholarship to attend Portland Community College in the fall to get her prerequisites before moving on to pursue her bachelor's degree in nursing.
MacAlevy is planning to study welding at UA Local 290. Welding is a skill he learned to love at Barlow High School.
Recipients of the scholarship can use the funds for any aspect of the post-high school education, not just the tuition.
Adams was a charter member of the Gresham Breakfast Lions. He also was a past district governor, council chair and executive director of the Oregon Lions, governing about 200 clubs.
Adams attended trade school and worked his way to become a partner at Premier Gear & Machine Works. In honor of his commitment to giving back to the community and his support for the trades, his family and the Gresham Lions established the Don Adams Memorial Trade Scholarship.
