Clackamas County Bank team dominates Gresham Chamber cook-off with Korean-French fusion

As the dust settled on the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce's annual cook-off Wednesday evening, June 29, it was Brian York and his team of sous chefs from Clackamas County Bank who wowed the voters' tastebuds.

PMG PHOTO: CHRISTOPHER KEIZUR - The winning plate of food featured a fusion of Korean and French flavors. York's menu was a fusion of French and Korean cuisines. He had gochujang-glazed shitake mushrooms with haricot verts gribiche and crispy shallots; kimchee and prawn fried rice; Korean meatballs with daikon relish, carrots and scallions in endive; and a Korean-colada to wash it all down — coconut milk, banana soju, St. Germaine, cardamom bitters and pineapple juice.

He bested some stiff competition during the Try Local event, which is the chamber's way of supporting shopping at local businesses, hosted at Riegelmann's Appliances, 301 E. Powell Boulevard, and sponsored by Gresham Ford.

The runners-up were Kirstan Rogers, Rogers Realty Inc.; Christy Kinsey, Landmark Tax & Investment Services Inc.; and Randy Paden, RP Computing.

One of the 95 voters who attended the event was celebrity guest Sophia Takla, Miss Meadowlark 2022 in the Miss Oregon Scholarship Program. The Golden Whisk competition was her first official appearance after winning her regional competition, and she cruised up to the event in a car donated by Gresham Ford.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here," Takla said.

Try Local takes place once a month to recognize and celebrate the many businesses in Gresham. The Golden Whisk is a special iteration of the gathering that is hosted annually at Riegelmann's.

"Don't pick up a phone, do your shopping here in Gresham," said chamber CEO Lynn Snodgrass. "We love showcasing our businesses — and they all compete and trash talk ahead of time."
