COURTESY PHOTO: MCSO - A bicyclist was fatally struck in Fairview around 2 a.m. Saturday, July 30. A bicyclist was hit and killed in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 30, while riding near the intersection of Northeast Halsey Street and Northeast Fairview Boulevard in Fairview.

According to a witness, at 2:02 a.m. two bicyclists were riding eastbound on Halsey when a driver crossed into the bike lane and fatally struck one. He allegedly stopped the car before driving away.

A responding Multnomah County Sheriff's deputy spotted the suspect vehicle and made a stop. The driver, 56-year-old Robert Lee Wilson, was arrested and lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Paramedics pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene. Due to the severity and criminal nature of the crash, the East County Vehicular Crimes Team is investigating.
