Benefit event to have live music from local artist, silent auction and raffles

A benefit event to support SnowCap Community Charities and local children will go from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the M&M Restaurant and Lounge, 137 N. Main Ave., Gresham.

The event, which was organized by Gresham resident Don Lukich, will include live music from local bands, full bar and menu, a silent auction and raffles throughout the evening. All the proceeds will go directly to SnowCap Community Charities, which provides food and resources to residents from Gresham, East Portland, Troutdale, Fairview and Wood Village.

Lukich wanted to put together an event that would support missing or endangered children. However, after a long search of organizations to donate to, Lukich wasn't able find a local group that worked with that issue. Luckily, Lukich fell upon SnowCap and was impressed by the organization's dedication to supporting local youths through their school supply and clothing drives. After learning about the group and what it did to, Lukich decided to make SnowCap the beneficiary of the event.

"I wanted to keep it local because people dig a bit deeper in their pockets to help if they know the money is going to stay in their community," Lukich said.

Live music will include local blues performer Ellen Whyte and special guest Richard Arnold. Music will be performed throughout the event with other local bands.

Bidding for the silent auction will start at 1 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. Although auction and raffle prizes are still being finalized, Lukich plans to auction off gift cards from local businesses.

Businesses interested in donating prizes for the event can contact Lukich at (503)-970-6144.
