Troutdale Cruise In, hosted by Kiwanis Club of the Columbia Gorge, draws thousands into downtown.

PMG PHOTO: CHRISTOPHER KEIZUR - The Troutdale Cruise In, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of the Columbia Gorge, returned Saturday, Aug. 6. Gleaming chrome, whitewalled tires, purring engines, drop-tops and hatchbacks from every decade lined the streets of downtown Troutdale as the annual car show drew thousands.

The 18th annual Troutdale Cruise In, hosted by the Kiwanis Club of the Columbia Gorge, made a roaring return Saturday, Aug. 6, for a day filled with family fun.

"Today is about hanging out with car collectors and fellow enthusiasts," said organizer John Leamy.

PMG PHOTO: CHRISTOPHER KEIZUR - The annual car show was a chance for thousands of community members to marvel at cars from all eras. The cruise-in had more than 200 cars on display, from convertibles, Corvettes, customs, imports, muscle cars, rat rods, roadsters, trucks , motorcycles, and everything in-between. The free, premier East Multnomah County car show had live music, vendor booths and frozen treats inside the former Troutdale General Store building, raffle prizes and trophies for the top entries in each of the 30 categories.

All of the show fees, for those with their vehicles on display, support the Kiwanis Club's programs and local Key Clubs at Corbett, Reynolds, Gresham and Centennial high schools.

But the main draw of the day was a chance for car enthusiasts of all ages to chat with fellow gearheads. There is a camaraderie during the Troutdale Cruise In, which has a laid-back feel more akin to chatting with a neighbor working on a car in their driveway.

"Seeing all the people oohing and aahing over the cars is my favorite part," Leamy said. "All of our entrants love to talk about their vehicles."
