Police officers recover nearly 200 bullet casings in six reported weekend shootings.

PMG PHOTO - More than 52 shots were fired Friday evening, Aug. 5, along Second Street in downtown Gresham. Gresham Police recovered nearly 200 spent bullet casings and a bystander was shot in the head as gunfire rang out across the city this past weekend, including a gun battle taking place outside a downtown bar.

Videos were shot of community members hunkering down in doorframes along Main Avenue as volleys of shots were fired across the street around 9:07 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at 2nd Street Bar, 40 N.E. Second St.

Responding Gresham Police officers recovered 52 bullet casings — 9mm and 40mm — and many vehicles and businesses had been damaged. Police said bullet strikes were found all the way down the street to M&M Restaurant & Lounge on Main Avenue. There were no injuries to the public.

While no arrests have been made, video surveillance showed a group of four suspects in the parking lot across the street from the bar having a verbal confrontation with two more suspects in a blue car. As the blue car left, shots were fired at the four, who then allegedly "wildly and haphazardly" returned fire at the vehicle leaving west on Second Street.

Earlier on Friday, around 8:34 p.m., shots were fired at a group of men standing in front of Carl's Jr. Police recovered two 9mm casings and an unoccupied Toyota Camry was hit. Then at 10:56 p.m. Friday, 10 shots were reported coming from a parking lot at 3356 S.E. Powell Valley Road.

On Saturday, Aug. 6, a woman was shot in the head as a result of a drive-by shooting. The victim was conscious and breathing after bullets grazed her head and leg. According to police, the woman had been watching television in the living room of her house, in the 2300 block of Northeast 169th Avenue, when a barrage of gunfire hit the north side. Officers recovered 111 spent rounds of various calibers, including .223, 7.62x39, .45cal, .40cal, and 9mm. The victim was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.

Then in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 8, more gunfire broke out in downtown Gresham, this time in the Arco parking lot, 57 W. Powell Boulevard. Gresham Police received reports of multiple shots and people running away, with witnesses spotting a gold Pontiac Grand Am fleeing the scene west on Powell.

Officers found twelve 9mm casings in the parking lot, as well as a handgun laser attachment that apparently fell off a suspect's gun. The Pontiac was found abandoned behind McCrae's Restaurant at 401 W. Powell Boulevard with multiple bullet strikes and blood in the interior. That vehicle had been reported stolen out of Vancouver.

While canvassing the area police found six more 9mm casings, a black fanny pack and black balaclava with blood on it.

No arrests have been made in any of the shootings.
