Historical Society hosts Candy Land competition; Gresham seeking new firefighters

All are welcome to add their personal touches to East Multnomah County's annual Candy Land, as registration is open to craft your own gingerbread creations.

The Gresham Historical Society-hosted Gingerbread House Competition will follow a new theme of "Christmas Around the World." The annual contest is open to kids and adults, amateurs and professionals, with multiple divisions and prize money for the winners. All of the gingerbread entries will be on display in the Gresham History Museum, 410 N. Main Ave., during the holiday festivities.

Registration is $25, and will remain open until Nov. 5. There are limited spaces for each division. Visit for more info and to secure a spot.

Join Gresham Fire

All are welcome to apply to join Gresham Fire & Emergency Services to keep the community safe.

The fire department is seeking applicants for firefighter/EMT basic and firefighter/paramedic to join its ranks, with applications open until Monday, Aug. 15. In the roles you would respond to emergency calls related to fire suppression and emergency medical services.

Gresham Fire serves the city, as well as Troutdale, Fairview, Wood Village and unincorporated Multnomah County. Other duties include general maintenance on fire apparatus, equipment and facilities.
