Meet the Candidates: Stanley calls for return to school basics
A Gresham political candidate is trying his hand once again at claiming a seat on City Council.
Though he did not directly answer questions sent by The Outlook or submit a photograph, Thomas Stanley is set to vie for Council Position 2, running against incumbent Council President Eddy Morales and former Councilor Cathy Keathley.
Stanley, who last threw his hat into the ring in the 2020 general election, is a retired circuit designer and project manager. He also has experience with neighborhood associations and church groups. He shared some goals he would pursue if elected.
He would balance the city budget; bring in more revenue streams, especially in support of police and fire; back the city water project; change laws to reduce property taxes for seniors and create other protections to keep them in their homes; make the city sustainable, eco-friendly, inclusive, diverse, and equitable; create a sustainable parks and recreation department; work to reduce "unnecessary political correctness;" and support further community development.
