The recreation group PlayEast! will host its first Costume Dash 5k from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Donald L. Robertson Park, 24300 N.E. Halsey St., Wood Village.

Costume adorned participants will start the course at Donald L. Robertson Park, weave through McMenamins Edgefield golf course and finish back at the park.

Runners can register online or on the day of the race starting at 8 a.m. People 16 and older will have to pay $40 to participate, while children 15 years-old and younger will cost $10.

PlayEast! is a partnership of the cities of Fairview and Wood Village that works to create enriching recreational activities for the children East County.

Costs go to post-race prizes like sunglasses, t-shirt and jack-o-lantern finishing medals. The rest of the funds raised will go directly to the PlayEast!.

"We have done 5ks in the past and we are just trying to create family event with this one," said Fairview's Recreation Manager, Jairo Rios-Campos. "With COVID-19, all of those things got postponed so now we are just trying to get families back out there and explore our city."

Rios-Campos also mentioned that the community had been pushing him and PlayEast! to return to doing more events. "When we decided to do something in the fall a costume dash just resonated well with the team," Rios-Campos said.

The dash is sponsored by Morasch Meats, Northwest Naturals Nuggets Raw Frozen Dog Food, First Community Credit Union in Fairview, McMenamins Edgefield and TriMet.
