Elks Foundation searching for seniors to enter college scholarship contest

COURTESY PHOTO: UNSPLASH - The application must be completed online and submitted by 11:59 p.m. Nov. 14. The Gateway-Gresham Elks Lodge No. 1805 and the Elks National Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2023 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest.

The scholarship is available to high school seniors who are U.S. citizen and plan to pursue a four-year degree on a full-time basis at a U.S. college or university. Applicants to do not need to be related to a member of the Elks for this scholarship. Applications are judged on the student's academics, leadership and financial need.

The application must be completed online and submitted by 11:59 p.m. Nov. 14. Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2023 competition, which will be announced in April 2023.

The Elks National Foundation will award 20 top scholarships ranging from $20,000 to $50,000.

The Gateway-Gresham Elks Lodge has awarded scholarships to students in the Gresham, Corbett, Troutdale, Wood Village, Sandy and Fairview areas for many years.

This year, the Elks National Foundation is investing $4 million in college scholarships. MVS scholars, all of whom demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and a commitment to service, are graduating from college at a rate of 90 percent,30 percent higher than the national average.

Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has awarded scholarships to thousands of students.
