Kid's Dash, 5k race at Barlow High School with funds going to Barlow senior scholarship

The Sam Barlow High School Alumni Association (SBHSAA) is hosting its fourth annual 2022 Hit the Barlow Trail Run/Walk & Kid's Dash at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Barlow High School track, 5105 S.E. 302nd Ave. in Gresham. COURTESY PHOTO: SAM BARLOW HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION - The fourth annual 2022 Hit the Barlow Trail Run/Walk & Kid's Dash will be at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Barlow High School track 5105 S.E. 302nd Ave. Gresham.

Bib pick-up and same-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on race day and end at 8:40 a.m. All participants and or guardians will need to sign a waiver either through RunSignup or on race day.

The Kid's Dash will start at 8:35 a.m. and is free. The 5K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. and costs $25 per person. A virtual option is also available $30 per person and is for those unable to make it to the event but who still want to support the group.

Proceeds will benefit SBHSAA student scholarships. The scholarships go to deserving graduating seniors each year. Last spring, the SBHSAA awarded scholarships to two seniors, totaling $7,000.

The course will be around the Barlow campus, through the cross country trail over varying running surfaces. There will also be a track option for those who cannot do the trail. A race clock will be at the event, but no times or places will be kept. All participants will receive a finisher award.

"Some of us in the alumni association have really benefited from sending our kids there, and we have seen what a good school means," SBHSAA board member Matt Norquist said. "We just want to support that greatness in some tangible way."

The SBHSAA is a nonprofit organization, formed by a group of Barlow alumni to support Barlow High School students, faculty and staff.

This year's race sponsors includes Aurelia's Custom Arrangements, Surface Nursery Inc., Scenic Fruit, Blue Pine Grill, Burns Feed Store, State Farm — Joe Swift, Fix Auto Gresham, The Center for Men's and Women's Urology, Cal Investments and Chester's Pub.
