I'm voting for my husband, Jeff Helfrich, for state representative of House District 52.
Jeff is awesome! He was unanimously appointed to serve as our state representative last November. He has an extensive record of public service, from being a U.S. Air Force-First Gulf War veteran to more than 25 years in local law enforcement. He received a Lifesaving Medal for saving a woman's life in a near-fatal domestic gun violence situation; he wondered if he kissed me goodbye that morning. To many, including me, Jeff is a hero committed to defending and improving lives of those around him.
To our children — Mazzy and Conrad — Jeff's a loving father, patient teacher and protector. As state representative, they are his motivation to keep fighting for more school funding, effective use of current education funding, greater quality education access, more career and technical education programs, and improving low graduation rates. He's proposed legislation to prove it.
I'm especially proud of Jeff's commitment to defending the rights of others. False claims annoy me. He believes Roe vs. Wade is the law of the land and the "boyfriend loophole" was already closed by existing laws protecting intimate partners from gun violence.
My husband cares about women, gun violence and sexual assault survivors. As our state representative, he sponsored a new law enabling rape survivors to track their rape kits and address the processing backlog. He is proposing legislation to eliminate the statute of limitations on sexual assault crimes using DNA. He seeks justice.
As a woman, naturopathic physician and lifelong resident of the Columbia River Gorge, I know Jeff will always put the needs of our community and what's right above all else.
Jeff brings the kind of leadership our community deserves in Salem. Join me in voting for Jeff Helfrich for HD52 State Representative.
