Letter writer Wendy Lawton of Fairview endorses Courtney Helstein's platform in her campaign to win election to the MHCC Board of Education.

I am a resident of Fairview, and last week met Courtney Helstein at a campaign event. I was impressed with her vision for Mount Hood Community College, which she hopes to join the board of in this May election.

Helstein wants to remove the barriers that so many Mount Hood and other community college students face. They can't afford tuition. They don't have child care. They don't feel safe on campus. They're not sure their degree will get them a job when they graduate.

Helstein wants to make sure Mount Hood is affordable, safe, accessible and connects students with careers. That is her platform as she runs for election to the college's Board of Education.

I also like the fact that Heslstein is a young woman with her own experience with student debt and comes from a small business family. With her life experience, and her drive to make a better future for students, I urge you to vote for Courtney Helstein to the Mount Hood Community College Board of Education.
