State Rep. Chris Gorsek supports Courtney Helstein's candidacy for the MHCC Board of Directors, saying she will put her focus on career and job preparedness.

As a Mt. Hood Community College instructor and a state representative serving Gresham, Fairview, Troutdale and Wood Village, I know the importance of preparing students for fulfilling and well-paying careers. In this election, we have the opportunity to support candidates who will play a critical role in policy creation and implementation through our school boards.

That's why I support Courtney Helstein for MHCC's Board of Directors. Courtney envisions an MHCC that connects college to careers, and she will build new partnerships with businesses and industries growing in East County that provide family wage jobs and opportunities for growth.

Most of today's college students view having success in the workplace, earning a decent salary, and having a fulfilling career as key reasons for pursuing higher education. MHCC is a place where they can gain the skills and training they need to find that success and contribute to our thriving local economy.

As an MHCC board member, Courtney will work with community partners and those of us in the Legislature to strengthen and expand apprenticeship and Career and Technical Education programs that prepare students for the workforce, and provide family-wage jobs.

Please join me in voting for Courtney on May 21.
