LETTER: Support active military, families this holiday season
The holiday season is upon us once again. We will begin another season of excesses. Collectively we will eat several tons of food, spend millions of dollars on trees, decorations and gifts.
The merriment will continue until the new year beckons.
However, this holiday season will be bittersweet for some. Many families in our Greater Gresham community will celebrate the holidays with loved ones overseas.
Active duty National Guard and Reservists are again deployed overseas and in harms way. Places like Qatar, Kuwait, Kosovo, Djibouti, Somalia and various places in the Middle East.
Our own National Guard unit in Gresham, Company C, 2nd Battalion 162nd Infantry, is one of the deployed units.
These soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen will not be able to join their families for the holidays. While we remember their service, we sometimes forget their families left behind at home.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Gresham United Post 180 wishes Happy Holidays to all the deployed service members, and the families left at home.
Your VFW Post 180 is committed to supporting these families.
If you wish to contribute to our mission of providing support to these families, you can mail your tax-deductible gift to:
