Alyson Huntting opposes the $405 million bond - on the November 2020 ballot - to fund an expansion and remodel of the Multnomah County library system.

I whole heartedly agree with Michael Patrick (Outlook letters, April 24) about the upcoming bond measures. The timing couldn't be worse for many, but will add to the mix. East County does not need a state of the art library at this time, but it does need fully funded and fully staffed essentials like police, fire and parks.

We have seen an uptick in people visiting the parks, but with issues as they are, it's taking volunteers to help keep up some of the maintenance.

With police and fire, we are seeing more issues come up now that need attending and they are stretched too thin.

The need for these three take top priority, and the need for real essentials is expanding all the time.

I will also be voting against a new library for East County when it comes up.
