Mayoral candidate's lived experience will serve Gresham well in inviting diversity to city government

The Outlook recently published an article regarding donors to the Gresham mayoral candidates ("Funding disparity marks Gresham mayoral race," Friday, Oct. 2) which sought to paint a negative picture of Eddy Morales' campaign receiving a few, relatively generous donations from outside the state.

As a resident of Gresham and small-dollar donor in support of Eddy's campaign for mayor (indeed 90% of his donors are local like myself), these relatively larger, out-of-state donations don't bother me in the least bit. Indeed, I've also contributed to campaigns outside of Oregon, because there are many elections across the country that matter to me and affect people I care about.

Eddy's campaign has been successful because of what matters the most: His qualifications and vision for Gresham. Eddy's professional experience as a small business owner, City Councilor, and founder of East County Rising, combined with his lived experience as a Latinx out gay man raised in Oregon in an immigrant family, all of these qualities and so much more make me proud to be among his donors and excited for the work he will do as mayor to continue making Gresham a city that's safe, sustainable, prosperous, affordable, and welcoming to all of its residents.
