Letter writers in East Multnomah County had this to say:
Elect Stegmann as Multnomah County chair
As a retired Multnomah County undersheriff, I support Lori Stegmann for Multnomah County chair.
Stegmann's commitment to serving all of Multnomah County has never wavered. She remains steadfast in her work and has the innate ability to bring opposing sides together to reach agreed consensus. Her honesty and dedication to her work is above reproach.
Commissioner Stegmann understands how much of a concern public safety is for county residents. To create a safer community, we must invest in keeping people out of the justice system in the first place. A top priority for Lori is reducing homelessness, which often coincides with a fall into drug addiction, by providing people with access to jobs, a roof over their heads, and community support.
Lori has fought for better mental health services in Multnomah County, instead of letting people slip through the cracks. Lori advocates for working together with first responders to get health care to those in need, helping them avoid ending up in the criminal justice system.
Lori Stegmann will lead us through our crises of homelessness, the struggling economy, and public safety. She's the best person to do the job, and that's why I support her for County Chair.
Multnomah County Undersheriff, Ret.
Pump the brakes on politics as usual
Democrats, Independents, Republicans and all others take note: We are off the rails in Salem.
I'm officially getting off the crazy train. I cannot hold my nose and send another RINO (Republican in name only) or leftist to Salem.
Government over reach and mission creep are so flagrant that they cannot be ignored. We need real leaders working for real solutions on behalf of all constituents.
District 52 has a chance to have real representation if we send Salem a principled and compassionate conservative. There is only one candidate in our race who will serve the people instead of the political machine.
District 52 voters need to register Republican to vote in the Republican primary election for Dr. James L. Born.
Oust the losing perennial RINO in our primary election.
Elect Dr. James L. Born in the general election and win District 52 back for the people.
I was in awe of your recent online article about our famously always giving Bess Wills.
This is what Gresham is all about. Watching her — along with others — testify at our most recent council meeting April 19 for our police department and safety issues was indeed a testimony to her protective nature for all of us. She and the rest of us believe in our police and want what will make their lives and ours more productive.
We are seeing more upheaval out here and we all need to support each other but also our police, and not only financially but also appreciate and respect what they do for us 24/7. You have heard about staff shortages and it's true.
Let's make Gresham the community people want to come to work for and let our officers know how much we acknowledge what they do and often. We can make a difference.
