COURTESY PHOTO: TEAM SELKIRK - Damascus resident took gold at the Mint Valley Summer Pickoff Tournament in the Mens Doubles Open Division. A Damascus resident took home the gold medal during a summer pickleball tournament in Washington.

Team Selkirk's Enrique Ruiz, Damascus, won alongside his partner Joe Barkdoll in the Men's Doubles Open Division of the Mint Valley Summer Pickoff Tournament, which ran June 7-9 at the Mint Valley Racquet & Fitness Club in Longview.

Known as "El Condor," because of his amazing ability to switch hands and long wingspan, Ruiz is now a 6-time National Open Champion; a national gold medalist in Singles, Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles competition; and a 3-time gold medalist in the prestigious Pickleball Tournament of Champions.
