Suspect car and person of interest located in Gresham fatal accident
Gresham Police Thursday located the suspect vehicle and a person of interest in Wednesday morning's fatal hit and run accident on the 181st Avenue off-ramp of I-84.
At about 5:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, Gresham Police responded to the report of a person down on the 181st Avenue offramp. Officers arrived on scene and located a dead adult female, Gresham Police said. It appeared that the victim had been struck by a vehicle.
Based on evidence from the scene, Gresham Police said Wednesday the suspect vehicle was a dark blue 2011-2014 Volkswagen Jetta with significant front-end damage.
"We have a person of interest who is cooperating with the investigation," the police said in a Thursday bulletin. Police did not ideentify the person of interest.
Police have not made an arrest or issued a citation.
The investigation is continuing and no other information is being released at this time, the police announcement said.
The victim's identification is pending notification of next of kin.
Police said additional information will be released when it becomes available.
Gresham Police ask that anyone who may have information about the collision or took the 181st eastbound exit Wednesday morning prior to 5:20 a.m. is asked to call 503-618-2719.
Another female pedestrian was killed by a driver about 2:50 a.m. Wednesday morning at Northeast 142nd Avenue and Halsey Street.
Portland Police Bureau and medical personnel responded to the Northeast 142nd Avenue location Wednesday, July 24, and determined a woman struck by a vehicle was dead.
Portland Police said preliminary information indicates the woman was crossing the street, wearing dark clothing, when she was hit.
The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
Portland Police Bureau spokesman Carlos Ibarra said Thursday the police are not recommending any charges against the driver. He will not be identified.
The victim's family has not yet been notified so her identity has not been released.
