A bases-loaded hit in the third inning lifts Gresham to the 6-5 win

DAMASCUS — Gresham’s Kai Kiyokawa slapped a ground ball through the dirt and just kept running and running and running. Kiyokawa cleared the bases when the bouncing ball slipped under a glove and rolled into the center-field grass, putting Gresham onto the scoreboard with a 4-2 lead that it would never surrender.

The Gophers went on to win the minors (ages 10-11) district Little League title 6-5 over Reynolds on Friday night.

Gresham extended to a 6-2 margin in the fourth inning before Reynolds rushed back with Austin Pick’s two-run homer in the fifth.

The Raiders put the tying run on base in the sixth inning before Gresham shortstop Trevor Bless scooped up a grounder and won a tight footrace to second base to end the game.

Gresham advances to the state tournament July 13-19 in Pendleton.
