The reigning 1A champs get set to defend their title

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Damascus Christians Karissa Cox finishes off a fastbreak during the Eagles 74-32 playoff win over Hosanna Christian on Friday. The Damascus Christian girls basketball team got off to a hot start and torched Hosanna Christian 74-32 in the second round of the 1A playoffs Friday.

Ana Wakefield opened the game with a 3-pointer from the top of the key, then knocked down a pass along the sideline and turned it into a layin. Hosanna called timeout after finding itself down 7-0 less than a minute into the game.

Damascus kept pouring it on and went into halftime up 51-8. The visiting Lions had called more timeouts (3) than made baskets (2) in the first half.

The No. 2 Eagles (26-1) advance to the 1A state tournament in Baker City where they will open with a quarterfinal game against No. 7 Country Christian (20-7) at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
