Corbett wins summer showdown with Tri-Valley foe
CORBETT — The summer basketball season is mostly about skill development and bringing a new team together, but Corbett's clash with Estacada on Tuesday night had a bit more importance.
"They're a team from our league, so it was definitely competitive," Cardinals guard Dylan Paintner said. "We wanted to beat them just a little bit more."
And Corbett would make good on that goal, climbing out of an early deficit and using a second-quarter spurt to run away with a 53-44 win.
After trading the lead three times, Corbett moved in front to stay when Paintner poked away a pass at midcourt and moved down the court for a breakaway layup. Estacada would promptly toss the ball out of bounds and Paintner struck again — this time with a 3-pointer from out top to stretch the lead to 20-14.
He was just getting warmed up.
Paintner nailed three straight long balls to send Corbett into halftime with a 30-19 lead.
