Corbett's volleyball team showed signs of staying with Class 4A powerhouse Valley Catholic in Tuesday's season opener, but the Valiants answered the challenge to claim the 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 win.

The Cardinals grabbed a brief lead midway through the second set after a service ace by Skye Larsen. But Valley Catholic would take 15 of the last 18 points in the set, including a seven-point surge that put them in command.

Corbett found itself within a single point midway through the third set when Valley Catholic did it again — this time a six-point run to halt any thoughts of an upset.

Corbett is at home at 6 p.m. Thursday against Cascade.
