SLIDESHOW: Gresham downs David Douglas 41-8 in prep football
Mount Hood Conference
Gresham's relentless rushing attack and bruising defense were too much for David Douglas as the Gophers rolled to a 41-8 victory in their league opener Friday.
Gresham's three-headed running game chewed up more than 250 yards with Charles Ndayizeye cracking through the end zone twice.
The Gopher defense sacked David Douglas quarterback Kevin Rodriquez-Nava five times and picked him off twice, while holding the Scots' ground game to under 50 yards.
The Gophers went on a crushing 17-play drive, culminating with Ndayizeye cutting inside for a 1-yard touchdown. The snap on the extra point attempt was high, but holder Luke Melton corralled the football and sprinted to the corner of the end zone for an unlikely 2-point conversion and a 21-0 lead.
David Douglas attempted a reverse on its next play from scrimmage, but the pitch went awry, resulting in a 35-yard scoop-and-score by Gopher defensive back Andrew Sayles.
Gresham (2-0) travels to Centennial next Friday, while David Douglas (0-3) is at Oregon City.
