SANDY — Barlow's football team took the inside track to a 6A playoffs with a commanding 34-7 win over rival Gresham on Friday night.

The Bruins gained the upper hand right away when Gresham fumbled on its first play, and Barlow lineman Jesse Wilson was first to the turf, reaching out a long arm to pull in the recovery. Barlow converted the turnover into points when QB Austin Davis rolled to his right on fourth down and found Caden Jensen in the back of the end zone for a 6-yard touchdown strike.

The Bruins would score on each of its first-half drives, highlighted by a 10-play, 93-yard march. This time Davis was on the receiving end of a TD pass, crossing the back of the end zone and hauling in a pass from Barlow's sophomore thrower Jaren Hunter for a 21-7 halftime lead.

Barlow (4-4) claims the final guaranteed playoff spot out of the Mount Hood Conference with a win at David Douglas (0-8) next Friday. Gresham (4-3) finishes the regular season at home against No. 10 Central Catholic (6-2). The Gophers sit fourth in the chase for one of the eight wildcard spots into the playoffs.
