OREGON CITY — The Mt. Hood Community College volleyball team put itself in position to climb the South Region ladder after scoring a three-set sweep at rival Clackamas on Wednesday night.

The Saints roared out of the gate with Hannah Spears banging out three kills and Elisha Levasa firing an ace for a 12-2 lead while fans were still finding their way to their seats.

Clackamas held the lead through most of the second set before Madison Pernich pounded out back-to-back kills to lead a late comeback, and a Cougars' ball-handing error gave the set to the Saints.

Mt. Hood won 8 of 9 points to start the third set on its way to finishing the sweep.

Mt. Hood (19-16) remains fourth in the South Region standings, but has a chance to move up and enhance its tournament seed when it hosts first-place Chemeketa at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
