CORVALLIS — The Reynolds boys water polo team raced away from Westview with a second-quarter spurt to take down the Wildcats 18-8 in the 6A quarterfinals Saturday night.

The Raiders scored on seven consecutive shots in the second period to turn a one-goal game into a comfortable 12-5 halftime lead.

The Raiders also held the Wildcats scoreless for an eight-minute stretch, helped largely by Max Osborn who locked down Westview's main scorer Max Bricken.

Bricken finished with three goals after putting up 10 in Westview's win over Lincoln earlier in the day.

The Raiders advance to face Newberg in the 6A semifinals at 6:10 p.m. Friday at Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis. The Tigers are the three-time defending champs.

"This is a game we knew was coming for some time now," Reynolds coach Shawn McKechnie said. "They definitely have experience on their side, but we've never had a team like this either."

• The Barlow girls scored a 13-2 win over Lake Oswego in its opener, followed by a 10-6 win over Sunset in the quarterfinals. The Bruins will face Newberg at 7:20 p.m. Friday in the 6A girls semifinals.
