The Centennial girls basketball team erased an early double-digit deficit to hold a slim lead going into the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold on during a 43-38 loss to The Dalles in the season opener Wednesday night.

The lead changed hands on each of the first four shots of the fourth quarter with Centennial finding itself on top 32-30 after point guard Dominique Andrews hit a pull-up 12-footer as the clock neared five minutes.

The Dalles responded when Bailey LeBreton converted a three-point play, hitting a second-chance free throw after a lane violation, to go ahead to stay 35-34 with 3:29 left.

Centennial left a series of 3-pointers short down the stretch, and The Dalles' Paulina Finn swished a pair of free throws to seal the victory.

Centennial is back in action at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Madison, while The Dalles hosts Sandy at 7 p.m.
