The Barlow boys basketball team boosted its playoff position with a 78-54 win over Gresham on rivalry night Friday.

After trading the lead three times in the first quarter, Barlow started to pull away early in the second helped by seven quick points from Jared Vedus. Austin Forrar got loose on a fastbreak and found teammate Jesse White for a 16-foot baseline fadeaway and a 36-23 lead late in the first half.

Barlow's lead would grow to as many as 28 points in the second half.

The win allowed the Bruins to keep pace in the league title chase tied with Central Catholic in third place — one game behind Oregon City and Clackamas. A four-game canyon divides the top half from the bottom half of the league heading into the final three weeks of the regular season.

Barlow (12-7) hosts Centennial (3-16) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

• The Barlow girls scored a 48-25 win over Gresham, getting a game-high 22 points from Emory Miller. She hit 9 of her 10 buckets in the second half.
