Barlow's Grace Maxey was in familiar territory facing down Clackamas rookie Elise Kang to start a third set in Wednesday's singles finale at the Mount Hood Conference district tournament.

The two players had gone the distance twice during the regular season — each coming out on top once.

Maxey wouldn't be denied with the district title at stake.

She broke Kang's serve twice early in the third set, and took a commanding 4-0 lead when Kang attempted a drop shot only to see Maxey rush onto the scene and whip a winner into the spot her opponent had filled only moments before.

Kang failed to win any of her four service games in the decisive set, including the final series that ended with Maxey putting on a quick change of direction along the baseline and catching her opponent off guard with a deep ball. Kang hit her return wide, and Maxey had the 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 win.

The Bruins finished second in the team tally with 12 points, getting a boost from its No. 2 singles player Olivia O'Halloran who made a run to the semifinals.

David Douglas saw the senior duo of Jie Tan and Lillian Truong reached the doubles title match before falling to Olivia Morris and Meiling Masterson of Clackamas 7-6, 6-1 in the finals.
