TROUTDALE — The Reynolds High summer baseball team came up with a big finish to surprise Columbia River 11-10 Tuesday night.

The Raiders found themselves buried 10-2 early in the game before scratching back in the bottom of the third with Ethan Jerome scoring on Chase Baldwin's shot to left field. Teammate Drexler Dickey raced home on a wild pitch moments later.

But it was a five-run spurt in the sixth inning that would bring the Raiders all the way back.

Jerome and Elliott DeMain sent run-scoring doubles to center field, and Justice Thompson put a grounder through the middle that brought across two more runs to tie the score 10-10.

Columbia River threw out the go-ahead run trying for home to end the inning.

In the seventh, an error allowed Columbia River a base runner who would scramble his way around to third base. But DeMain gobbled up a ground ball on the left side to prevent him getting home.

Jacob Hendrickson was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the seventh for the Raiders, who would cash in three batters later on Dickey's two-out line drive to center field to win the game.

The teams traded runs in the first inning with Reynolds pulling even when Alex Hendrickson and Jerome each scurried home followed an error on the edge of the infield.

Columbia River seemed to take charge with a six-run flurry in the second inning.

Alex Hendrickson, Dickey, Thompson and Steve Kovac all finished with multiple hits for the Raiders, while Jerome scored after all three of his at-bats.

Kovac threw five innings of relief, striking out seven and surrendering only two runs.

Reynolds scored a 7-0 shutout over Hillsboro over the weekend with starter Nick Tarkenton striking out six batters before Jerome came on in the seventh and retired the Spartans on seven pitches. Dickey led the bats going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Reynolds made it three straight wins with a 7-4 decision over Sandy on Wednesday night, getting the winning push with a five-run fifth inning highlighted with doubles by Dickey and Kovac. Alex Hendrickson hit 2-for 3 and drew a walk out of the top spot in the order, cycling the bases to score twice.

The Raiders are 9-16 heading into the high school summer tournaments next weekend July 26-28.
