Sports Briefs: The Ohio State-bound Wrestler Is Honored At Oregon Sports Awards

PMG PHOTO: DAVID BALL - Centennial senior Phillip Kue acknowledges the Eagles cheering section after taking a 4-1 win in the 132-pound title bout to cap his high school career in February.

Centennial High graduate Phillip Kue was named the 2019 Outstanding Prep Wrestler at the Oregon Sports Awards banquet earlier this month.

Kue finished his high school career with three state titles and a 162-3 record, going undefeated each of his last two seasons.

Kue claimed a pair of major decisions, a pin and a default win before scoring a 4-1 decision in last season's state title match at 132 pounds.

"If we're both starting out on our feet, I like to go after a sweep single or a double leg and just get them down to the mat," Kue said.

He is headed to Ohio State University as part of the nation's top-ranked recruiting class for 2019.
