The David Douglas girls soccer team scored seven minutes into the match and never let its foot off the gas, racing away with a 6-0 win over Roosevelt to open the season Wednesday night.

Michelle Tapia and Olivia Eyestone connected on a series of quick passes that moved the ball across the 18-yard box for Kennedy Craver, who finished the chance from 10 yards out.

David Douglas put persistent pressure on the goal over the next 20 minutes, but the score remained frozen at 1-0 until Tapia played the role of delivery person once again.

This time, she settled a ball amidst a crowd of white shirts in the middle of the field before punching it back with a soft touch that found Kaylee Reeves running full speed down the field. She dribbled past a pair of Roughrider defenders then poked the ball off the goalie's shins. The ball took a hop and spun toward the goal where Reeves continued forward and tapped it into the open net.

Teammate Olivia Page would notch a pair of goals late in the first half, highlighted in the final seconds when she sprinted past the last defender and ran onto a bouncing goal kick that had traveled the length of the field. She got a quick touch on the ball before the keeper arrived on the scene, wrinkling the net for a 4-0 lead with six ticks left on the first-half clock.

"Our strong start can be attributed to a core group of players, who have been on varsity together for the last two years and have come together as a team," Scots' coach Amy McQueen said.

Page completed a hat trick with another goal in the second half, while Annabelle Sukin capped the scoring off an assist fro Kelli Huskic.
