Corbett's volleyball team raced through its home opener with a three-set sweep over Marist on Tuesday night.

After four early lead changes, the Cardinals pushed ahead for a final time 6-5 in the first set when Grace Merrill twisted at the net and deflected the ball down in the center of a pack of Marist players.

That sparked a five-point service run by teammate Morgan Stafford, who hit aces on both sides of a Marist timeout.

Hannah Bubna rose up high on the right side, avoided a Marist block and swung through for a kill that touched down in front of another diving defender for a commanding 20-11 lead.

Emma Dillard sent an ace down the line to bring up set point.

Corbett gained the upper hand when Stafford got to a tricky ball in the front row, twisting her body to avoid the antennae while bumping the ball high into the air. Dillard rushed onto the hanging ball and buried a kill into the back corner.

The second set was never close.

Hannah Bubna chased down a Marist attack beyond the end line, Riley Mandzij bumped the ball into the front row, and Mimi Tesulov put down a kill between three Marist players for an 8-3 lead.

The Spartans managed only one point through its first rotation cycle, and Corbett found itself in charge 20-13 after Bubna made a late adjustment at the net and punched a ball over with her fist for a winner.

The Cardinals closed in on another set point when Bubna scrambled the Marist defense with a kill that sent the libero flying through the air. The Spartans managed to get the back back over the net, only to be unprepared to protect against Corbett's next attack. Bubna bumped a pass into the front row where Stafford set a high hanger for Tesulov, who swung through with a kill that flashed in front of the libero.

Corbett evened its nonleague record at 2-2 heading into the Century tournament next weekend — its final tuneup before Tri-Valley play begins.
