Barlow picks up basketball sweep over Centennial in opener, Mt. Hood CC women improve to 3-0

Saturday, Jan. 11

MT. HOOD 61, CHEMEKETA 48 — The Mt. Hood women's team improved to 3-0 in league after taking a 14-point lead into halftime on the road at Chemeketa. Emily Webber led the Saints with 13 points and five steals.

The Storm shot only 7-for-17 (41.2%) at the free-throw line, and the Saints outscored Chemeketa by 15 points behind the arc.

Mt. Hood hosts rival Clackamas in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday.

The Mt. Hood men's team dropped a 104-91 decision to the Storm after being outscored by 14 points at the free-throw line. Leonard Dixon hit 9 of 13 (69.2%) of his 3-point shots to finish with a game-high 39 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Friday, Jan. 10

BARLOW 92, CENTENNIAL 30 — Jesse White scored a game-high 34 points, while not taking the floor in the fourth quarter. He went 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and knocked down five 3-point shots. The Bruins outscored Centennial 29-4 in the third quarter and put a dozen players into the scoring column by the end of the game.

Ajay Hutchinson led the Eagles with 11 points — all of them coming in the first half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Friday, Jan. 10

DAVID DOUGLAS 71, REYNOLDS 24 — The Scots put nine points into the scorebook on their way to a 26-point halftime lead. Jenna Stradley knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and finished with a game-high 27 points without getting onto the floor in the fourth quarter.

Josephine Badoni hit a pair of first-half 3s and led the Raiders with 11 points.

BARLOW 68, CENTENNIAL 25 — The Bruins didn't allow a bucket in the first quarter on their way to a 25-point halftime lead. Kennedie Shuler led the charge with 18 points, while Emily Fortin added 13. Ellie Basinski paced the Eagles with 12 points.

WRESTLING

Thursday, Jan. 9

REYNOLDS 46, SANDY 36 — The Raiders won six of the 10 contested bouts, five by fall, along with a 16-5 major decision by Daniel Guillen at 126 pounds. Robert Plympton (195) and Eric Sheldon (220) scored first-period falls at the upper end of the weight ladder.

CENTENNIAL 56, BARLOW 15 — The Eagles won 9 of the 12 contested bouts, racing to a 34-0 lead after sweeping the lightweight half of the ladder. Jeremiah Van Cleve had the quickest pin of the night in 44 seconds at 126 pounds. Edgar Molina (106) and Bailey Sparks (182) each scored major decisions for the Eagles.

Barlow's Jackson Kane won an 8-7 decision at 195 pounds in the closest bout of the night.

SWIMMING

Thursday, Jan. 9

REYNOLDS 90, SANDY 68 — The Reynolds boys picked up their first league dual victory with Vu Lam doubling up in he 100 free (57.37) and breaststroke (1:15.90), while Tyler Quach won the 50 free (25.58), and Ben Klopp won the butterfly (1:03.04). The Raiders outscored Sandy by 18 points across the three tag-team races.

Sandy scored a 72-32 win in the girls dual. Reynolds saw Sierra Crocker double up in the 200 free (2:27.76) and backstroke (1:23.46).
