Centennial's swim team pulled off a dual-meet sweep over Reynolds on Thursday, highlighted by a 109-60 win in the boys meet.

The Eagles outscored their opponents in 10 of the 11 events — the only miss coming in the distance freestyle race where the teams split the points evenly.

Centennial started the day with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with Kyle Cook giving the Eagles a body length lead after the breaststroke leg of the race.

"I didn't have much going on in my head, I just swam my stroke and went as fast as I could," Cook said. "It looks like a pretty even meet today, so the relays will be important."

Centennial ended the day with wins in all three relays, building a 14-point advantage across the tag-team races.

The Eagles saw Dayton Foss and Kit Bishop combine for a 1-2 sweep in the 200 freestyle with Foss separating himself from the pack on the third of the four laps.

"Usually once I hit that half-way point, I start pushing it a lot more," Foss said.

Reynolds answered with Vu Lam winning a tight race in the 200 medley. He gradually built a gap while swimming along the wall in lane 1, and took a two-stroke lead into the final freestyle leg.

"I'm not used to being on the edge of the pool, so it was a little weird, but I got used to the wall being there pretty quick," Lam said. "The first two legs I wanted a moderate pace with a speedy touch, and that sets me up for my main advantage in the breaststroke, then it's just a sprint to the end."

While Lam won the race, Centennial filled the next three spots and grew its lead by two more points. The Eagles were in command 42-20 at the intermission.

Centennial got double wins from Taz Larson in the butterfly and backstroke, while Devan Oliphant matched that feat in the sprint freestyle and backstroke. Cook added a win in the 100 free.

Lam doubled up for the Raiders in the 200 medley and distance freestyle.

The Centennial girls picked up their first dual win of the season by an 110-28 count over a Raiders' squad that entered only four swimmers in varsity events. That meant Reynolds did not send a swimmer to the starting blocks in five events.

Elle Moir (50 free and butterfly) and Erica Nguyen (distance free and backstroke) each turned in perfect 16-point days for the Eagles. In addition to their individual wins, both were teammates on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.

Centennial also got first-place points from Suehay Mercado in the breaststroke, Mady Gabriel in the 200 free and Gabi Pearse in the 200 medley.

Sierra Crocker provided Reynolds with its only win in the 100 free.
