The Open Door boys basketball team put on a mad rush in the second half, but could not chase down North Clackamas Christian in a 61-56 road loss Thursday night.

Down 18 points at the break, Open Door rookie Isaiah Wolcott hit a 3-pointer, then swiped a steal and zipped to the basket for a layup.

The yellow caution light started flashing.

North Clackamas coach Grant Nelson called timeout.

Action resumed, and Open Door's Johnny Cristurean drilled a 3 from the top of the arc. On the team's next trip, Cristurean dribbled casually around the perimeter before leaving the ball behind him for Wolcott to sink another deep ball.

Benjamin Tevs sank another triple, the Huskies fifth of the quarter, to bring the gap under 10 points.

North Clackamas answered with Isaac Minne driving the baseline before scooting a pass through the lane to Braden Young for a layup. Caleb Matias followed with a triple, and the Saints took a 13-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Open Door chomped into the lead once again with Wolcott hitting a 3-pointer, followed by a three-point play in the lane on back-to-back possessions. Cristurean sent a long pass ahead to Wolcott, who finished a layup while crashing to the floor to bring the Huskies within six points with four minutes to play.

North Clackamas punched back with Minne hitting a runner in the lane. On the next trip, Luke Nelson snagged an offensive rebound and put a shot back up before his feet touched the ground. The ball circled the rim once, spun on the edge of the iron, then took another half-circle around before dropping through the net for a 59-51 lead as the clock ticked under a minute.

The Huskies got one last gasp when the Saints missed a free throw, and Open Door's Isaac Van Vleet sank a 3 at the other end to make it a one-possession game with 0:05 left.

North Clackamas ended the suspense when Braden Young knocked down a pair of free throws.

Wolcott hit five 3s on the night and finished with a game-high 26 points.

Open Door (13-7) is all but locked into the No. 4 seed for the upcoming Valley 10 tournament.
