SANDY — Centennial's wrestling team dominated the lightweights to complete a perfect run through the Mount Hood Conference with a run-away win at Saturday's district tournament.

The Eagles crowned champions in each of the first four weight classes to finish with 370.5 points for the tournament — almost 40 better than runner-up David Douglas.

Rookie Mason Belles set the tone at 106 pounds with a hard-fought 13-7 decision over the Scots' Hayden Narruhn in a battle between the top two team contenders.

Belles scored a near-fall at the edge of the mat to take a 5-0 lead at the end of the first round. He scrambled out of trouble on his back early in the second period and took a three-point lead into the final two-minute session.

"When you've been wrestling for nine years, you get a natural feel for it," Belles said. "You know where the pressure is a little lighter and you can slip out."

Belles scored a takedown for a commanding 11-5 lead with 1:24 left, and secured the victory when he slipped behind Narruhn for a reversal in the late stages of the bout.

"I don't pay too much attention to the score — I just wrestle," Belles said.

Belles spent less than three minutes on the mat to get past his first three opponents.

Jake Angelovic followed with a 6-2 decision over Clackamas' Jackson Wilcoxen in the 113-pound finale. He held a slim lead throughout, clinching the victory by tying up his opponent's legs to complete a reversal before being dragged off the mat with 1:04 remaining.

Jeremiah Van Cleve (120) emerged on top out of tumble with Clackamas' Alejandro Wilson late in the first period, but action spilled out of the circle before points could be awarded. He cashed in with a takedown shortly after the restart for a 4-0 lead. Van Cleve would finish the bout with a pin late in the second round, giving him falls in all four of his district bouts.

The Eagles completed their blitz through the lightweights with Tui Laithang (126) scoring a 10-2 major decision over Clackamas' Jaxon Palmer. He took a shutout into the third round, kicking out for an escape on his opening move of the period for a commanding 5-0 lead.

Centennial wrestlers combined to post a 25-9 (75.3%) record through 126 pounds.

Emanuel Gurzhuy (220) claimed the team's other weight-class title with a late pin over David Douglas' Johnny Martinez. An escape point for Gurzhuy proved to be the only scoring through the first four minutes before he trapped his opponent for a near-fall as the clock ticked under a minute and completed the pin within a matter of seconds.

Centennial got runner-up finishes from Kobe Hein (160) and Bailey Sparks (182), along with wins in third-place bouts by Jonathan Tochi (145), Conner Tolvstad (170) and Gabe Steen (195).

Reynolds crowns two weight-class winners

The Raiders saw Burgess Myers win a 5-2 decision over Centennial's Kobe Hein in the 160-pound final.

After a scoreless first period, Myers escaped on his initial move of the second period, then got in on his opponent's leg for a takedown and a 3-0 lead. Hein trimmed it to a one-point margin with 1:45 remaining, meaning the next takedown would likely decide a champion.

Myers managed to slip in from the side and topple his opponent for the clinching points with 0:35 left.

"He's a strong kid, and I had to wrestle smart," Myers said. "I wasn't going to be denied in the third period. I saw an opportunity, and I took it."

Teammate Robert Plympton (195) added another Raiders' title with a pair near falls in the first period before pinning his opponent in the second.

David Douglas edged Clackamas for second place in the team tally, highlighting its night with Josiah Green's title run at 182 pounds. Centennial's Bailey Sparks got in on his leg on his opening move of the title bout, only to have Green send the two into a tumble in the center circle. He came out on top for a takedown and would add near-fall points to claim a 6-1 lead.

That proved to be all the scoring he would need on his way to the 6-4 decision, securing the victory by keeping his opponent in the down position for 90 seconds of the final period.

Barlow crowned Titus Trayhorn champ at 145 pounds, beating the clock for back points and a 5-0 lead at the end of the first round. He would do the same with a reversal and near-fall at the end of the second period on his way to a 12-2 major decision.

Gresham crowned Bryce Granberg champion at 152 pounds, rallying from a four-point first-period deficit to put his opponent in trouble with a near-fall that turned into a pin at the start of the second round.
