Bruins freshman Gracie Heath wins 100; Alex Talimao, Anthony Dickson duel in throws

PMG PHOTO: CHRISTOPHER KEIZUR - Raider senior Emma Desurmont won the 100 hurdles during a Barlow duel meet Wednesday, April 13.  Barlow hosted a double duel meet with Central Catholic and Reynolds Wednesday afternoon, April 13 — with records being set and wins claimed by all three schools.

The Bruins' speedy youngster Gracie Heath turned heads in her performance in the 100 — an event that had eight heats of competitors. The freshman won in 13.54, and also ran the anchor on the Bruins 4x100 relay team, with teammate Peyton Hardin, Cheyenne Myers and Miana Peil, that crossed in a winning 52.32.

Another talented sprinter, Central Catholic junior Lakely Doht-Barron, won the 400 in 59.94, running in a second heat filled with all Rams as some light rain fell onto the track.

Elsewhere Barlow junior Alyssa Stumbo set a PR while winning the 800 in 2:28.95; Central junior Kyeese Hollands won discus (142-11 feet); and Central senior Elliott Bush won javelin (124-9).

In shot put it was a pair of Barlow sisters, senior Grace Lam Tiang and freshman Alithia Lam Tiang, who dueled. Grace won with a 35-foot throw, while Alithia set a PR with 28-6.5 feet.

Barlow sophomore Keeley Chard won the pole vault with a 7-6 foot clear.

In the 1500 Central senior Skylar Perez pulled away late to win in 5:28.19 after running stride-for-stride with Reynolds senior Mary Pham for most of the race. Pham crossed in a season-best 5:39.35.

The Raiders girls claimed wins in the hurdles. Senior Emma Desurmont survived clipping a hurdle late in the 100 hurdles that had her fighting to maintain footing to win in 17.65, while senior teammate Sayoko Kobayashi set a season-best 53.50 in the 300 hurdles.

Desurmont would go on to win the long jump with a PR 15-5.5 foot mark, while senior teammate Kayleigh DeGrande won the triple jump with 28-6.

For the boys, Bruins star junior hurdler Micah Perry stuck to the standard sprints during the meet — winning the 100 in 11.32 and taking second in the 200 with a PR 22.98. Central Catholic senior speedster Stryder Todd-Fields claimed victories and set PRs in both the 200 (22.33) and 400 (49.96); and ran the opening leg of a winning 4x100 relay (43.37).

Rams juniors Charlie Black and Tristan Sullivan won the 800 and 1500 respectively. Black crossed the line in 2:03.34 PR, while Sullivan won in 4:30.17.

Reynolds junior Dylan Stevenson had a season-best 10:12.66 as he cruised to a win in the 3000.

In throws Barlow junior Alex Talimao and Reynolds junior Anthony Dickson dueled throughout the meet. Talimao claimed wins in shot put (40 feet) and discus (149-9 PR), while Dickson won the javelin (137-6 SR).

Barlow junior Boaz Amadio won the pole vault with a PR clear of 11 feet; Reynolds senior Shawn Taylor won the long jump (19-11.5 feet PR); and fellow Raider junior Ethen Mueller won the triple jump (34-2.25 PR).
