Corbett claims gold, silver at 4A Track & Field state meet
If you turned your head you would have missed it, as a Corbett senior sprinter flew around the track in a blur en
route to a gold medal performance at the biggest meet of the season.
Cole Parker won the boys 400 with a personal record time of 50.40, besting the rest of the field by nearly a second. Not content with just one appearance on the podium, Parker would return to the track to place seventh in the 200 (23.04).
Parker led the way for a contingent of Corbett and Estacada competitors that shined during the OSAA 4A Track & Field State Championships held Friday and Saturday, May 20-21, at Hayward Field, in a return to the historic venue after a year's pause with COVID.
For the Rangers, senior Jake Behrman finished fourth in the discus (138-01 feet), and junior teammate Cody White placed fourth in the shot put (44-09.50). White also set a new personal record in the javelin with another fourth-place finish (169-10 feet).
Estacada senior Daniel Horn finished tied for ninth in the high jump (5-08 feet), while senior sprinter Kaitlin Willis took sixth in both the 100 (13.07) and 200 (27.16).
For the Cardinals, junior Cole Weien notched a PR in a second-place finish in the long jump (20-11.75 feet); in girls pole vault, Corbett sophomore Sophie Bergkvist cleared 9-06 feet for third place; and senior McKenna Webber had a PR of her own in a seventh-place finish in the triple jump (32-02.75).
