Bruins beat David Douglas 20-5 in second round; Barlow boys advance to semifinals

Barlow girls water polo had their opponents treading water in the opening rounds of the state tournament as the top-seeded and defending champion Bruins continued to make a splash in 2022.

After an opening bye, No. 1 Barlow beat No. 8 David Douglas 20-5 in the 2022 6A Girls Water Polo state championships hosted at the Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis. The easy win sets up a showdown with No. 4 Lake Oswego in the semifinals Friday, Nov. 11.

On the boys side, No. 4 Barlow won an opener 17-1 over South Salem, and then did held on for a 10-7 win against No. 5 Grant. They will next play No. 1 Lake Oswego in the semifinals next weekend.

Rounding out the local teams were the No. 15 Gresham girls who lost 19-2 to No. 2 South Eugene; and the No. 15 Reynolds boys who lost 5-0 to No. 2 Newberg in a defensive showdown.
